Hello and happy Friday to you!
It’s time for the monthly Paper Adventures team blog hop, and this month the team is thrilled to have Brian King as our guest designer – a real treat!
With the theme of Trick or Treat, my literal mind went straight to thinking of a Halloween project but inspiration eluded me 😦 then a little birdie told me I could be creative with the theme and maybe make a card featuring a treat… so I got my new Birthday Goodness stamp set inky!
This set was an impulsive addition to my big new catalogue purchase, but I’m glad to have it in my collection. I really like the sentiments and the fonts and images are lovely to colour.
Everyone in my house loves donuts so a tower of them for your birthday would be a real treat! I stamped the image with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and coloured it with alcohol markers. I used Smoky Slate and Lovely Lipstick cardstock layers on a thick Whisper White card. I used the Nested Labels dies to cut the featured shapes. The background donuts were stamped in Lovely Lipstick – I’m a fan of this technique, colour on colour on the backing mat.
It took some time to decide on how I would do the sentiment (usually I stamp on a white piece) but I’ve been doing more heat embossing lately as I’ve realised it doesn’t take that much longer and the result is worth the time.
I felt my card needed something more so I jazzed it up with some Dazzling Diamonds on the donut sprinkles and Wink of Stella over the sentiment.
Wink of Stella is my go-to tool for adding something extra to a card. You can’t go wrong with a bit of sparkle and on this one, it softened the black and covered an embossing powder smudge (sshh!)
The inside of the card got some attention too. Love this sentiment!
I like being matchy-matchy, so Black Rhinestones added a lovely finishing touch.

* Are you matchy-matchy? Or happy to have a colour feature just once on a card?
