Paper Adventures Team Blog Hop – Banners

Hello! Welcome to the Paper Adventures team blog hop for August. This month we are delighted to have Melissa Gifford join us as our guest designer.

Our theme to inspire our crafty creations for this hop is ‘banners’. I was thinking of a card design that would have a bunting banner across the front and then I decided to make an actual banner! I love how Stampin’ Up! products can be used for off the page creations as well as cards.

My husband’s birthday is coming up and I’d already planned to use the Whiskey Business stamp set for his card, so I made this banner with that in mind.

As is my usual style, this banner was made in a hurry so the letters were placed using the highly effective ‘eyeball’ technique ๐Ÿ˜€ If I had more time, I {may} have drawn a pencil line to help with placement…

Each piece is made from the largest and second largest Nested Label Dies. I stuck them together with both upper points meeting so that more of the coloured label showed at the bottom.

The colours of the large banner pieces are: Bumble Bee,ย Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake and Garden Green. The smaller banner pieces are made from Naturals White, retired but this is one I love to use for masculine projects and with earthy tones.

Each of the colours were embossed with a different 3D embossing folder:

Cajun Craze – Brick & Mortar

Garden Green – Subtle (vertical lines)

Crumb Cake – Pinewood Planks

Bumble Bee – Subtle (horizontal lines)

Did you notice the sparkle on the letters? (cut with the Large Letter dies – retired from SU but never from my stash!) I’ve used the gorgeous new Black Glitter Paper. A great detail for this new paper is the backing sheet is black too, so no more white peaking through on cut edges.

And because there’s sparkle on the letters, I added some sparkle and shine to the whiskey with Shimmer Crystal Effects.

Are you a planner, taking your time, and using pencil lines to help with placement? Or are you like me? A last minute, seat of your pants type crafter?

Please keep hopping along – there are so many great banner projects to see. Next is my lovely friend, Sheila with her beautiful banners creation.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love a birthday banner and I really love that you’ve made this for hubby!! The colour combo is perfect – masculine but bright and fun as well. The crystal effect on the whiskey looks ah-mazing. And your eyeballs seem to work perfectly fine – looks straight enough to me, no pencil line needed!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Siobhan.

  2. I love this banner, Narelle! The different textures are so cool, and the letters look great! Iโ€™m definitely a last minute crafter too ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I too have all my best ideas at the last minute! I love this banner – it’s next level! Best kind of decoration for a birthday month and it can be pulled out year after year! Kelly x
