Hello and happy Friday to you. Welcome to the October instalment of the Paper Adventures Team monthy blog hop. This month we are privileged to have the talented Kayla McCreadie joining as our guest designer. And also a very special mention to team mate, Robyn Houston who has just started her blog and is joining tonight for her first ever blog hop!
Continuing this month with my blog organising duties, I threw everyone a curveball with the theme of pointillism, a.k.a. dot colouring. A video by Jennifer McGuire introduced me to this technique, and I’ve since found more inspiration with Heidi Collins and Liz Yuille. This style of colouring is a new experience for all of us so I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone has created to share tonight.
I like the type of dot colouring where lots of colours radiate from a solid image. So I used the Silhouette Scenes stamp set for my image, and a coordinating sentiment too. To get the nice crisp black image I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink and my Stamparatus so I could repeatedly stamp the image and get it in the right place every time.
I used Blends for my colouring, and because I don’t have a full collection (yet!) that limited what colours I could use. From the bottom up I used: Dark Pretty Peacock, Light Pretty Peacock, Dark Lovely Lipstick, Light Blackberry Bliss, Dark Purple Posy, with some extra dots in Light Lovely Lipstick and Light Purple Posy, finishing with Dark Daffodil Delight.
While assembling my card, I felt like it needed something else. And when in doubt about what to add, I use my Subtle embossing folder. Embossing a layer seems to add an extra dimension to any project, and I felt a little happier with the end result.
I also added a small flag and a twine bow for an extra touch of colour and texture. (An element I’ve seen many times on Kelly’s cards and I love it!)
I’m still spending most of my time sitting with my ankle up so I set myself up with a mini craft station in the lounge room to be with my kids while they watched a movie. I watched a bit too – Henry Cavill in Man of Steel!!!
Next to share their pointillism creation is my lovely friend Kelly, you can see her beautiful creation here.
I hope you have some time to put your feet up over the weekend and crafting time too – maybe try something new?
Thanks for visiting!
